Sharable Content
Object Reference Model (SCORM)
a collection of standards and
specifications for web-based e-learning, referring to
the design, development
and implementation of online courses initiated by the
Department of Defense. Courses can then be
composed of learning objects.
SCORM defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment (commonly a function of a learning management system). SCORM also defines how content may be packaged into a transferable ZIP file.
Compliant courses track information about the learners experience in the content, such as scores, time spent on content, or other aspects of the learner experience. They can include the ability to specify adaptive sequencing of activities that use content objects, and share and use information about success status for multiple learning objectives or competencies across content objects and across courses for the same learner within the same learning management system. The more robust test suite helps ensure good interoperability.
